Research Reels

Stop the scroll for a deeper goal: less doom, more room to bloom. ๐Ÿง โœจ

Research Reels is a series from the African Research Society. We're stepping out of the lecture halls and into the labs to highlight the African researchers driving innovation across the continent โ€” the people and questions shaping the future of science, medicine and technology.

Our mission is to empower the next generation of African researchers. We're dismantling the โ€œsilosโ€ of academia and building a vibrant ecosystem where students find their entry point into world-class research networks. Swap the doomscroll for a brain-roll โ€” real research, real results, real rapid. ๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ

View profile

As a 4th-year medical student at the University of Cape Town, Rahul's journey is defined by a commitment to compassion-driven leadership and health systems innovation. Serving as Deputy Chairperson of the Health Sciences Student Council and CEO of Street Smartz, he builds inclusive, community-centred systems that bridge the gap between academic excellence and meaningful advocacy.

Beyond his clinical and leadership roles, Rahul believes in the power of a multidisciplinary life โ€” finding balance through the discipline of football, the precision of photography, and the creative expression of cooking. He is driven by a simple goal: to combine medical expertise with strategic advocacy to serve those around him more effectively.
