The ARS identity

A mark for a continent in motion.

Africa, threaded by a rising strand of DNA — research itself, ascending through the continent. Our identity carries one idea: knowledge moving freely across Africa, by Africans, for Africa.

The mark

Africa, threaded by research.

At the centre of our identity is the African continent, threaded by a single strand of DNA. It stands for research itself — the science and inquiry rising through the continent — and for change: an axis of movement and transformation running its full length.

It marks Africa not as it was once drawn from the outside, but as it is being remade from within: connected, self-determined, and in motion.

Cape to Cairo

A line reclaimed, end to end.

A century ago, “Cape to Cairo” described a corridor imagined across Africa — a line drawn to serve interests far from the people it crossed. We reclaim the phrase and turn it toward the continent it belongs to.

For ARS, Cape to Cairo is a pan-African axis of connection: from either end of the continent, research, talent, and opportunity flowing on Africa's own terms. It is our commitment to reach every corner — carrying equity and transformation from Cape Town to Cairo, and everywhere between.

The colours

A halo of change.

Our halo carries the pan-African colours — shared with the Office of the Grand Secretary — in a single gradient: red, to gold, to green. Together they read as movement from heritage, through energy, into growth.

Red#E03C31

Heritage and the shared history that grounds us.

Gold#F5B301

Energy, excellence, and the brilliance of African scholarship.

Green#1FA24A

Growth, renewal, and the future we are building.

The vision

An Africa already arriving.

We picture a continent whose questions are answered by its own researchers — where heritage and futurism meet. Our identity is deliberately forward-looking: an Afrofuturist vision of equity, transformation, and possibility, built by the students and scholars shaping what comes next.
